In true Yorkshire fashion, let’s be blunt. From a dairy industry perspective, the months of March, April and May have not been pretty. Covid-19 has been devastating for many businesses, and the dairy industry is no exception. The production of ice cream at Yorvale has dramatically reduced due to the saddened temporary closure of our lovely ‘scoopers’, outlets, cafés and other stockists, under the Covid19 Government guidance.
However, our girls in the field kept on producing milk and we are happy to declare that not a drop went to waste! Thanks to our Kefir production for Yorlife (our sister company), we have been able to operate the factory and carry on producing delicious Kefir products ensuring no milk went down the drain and has financially supported us during this global crisis.
During these quiet months, we have shown support to local initiatives such as York Scrubs: a fantastic community project delivering personal protective equipment to front line workers. We were happy to provide our van to help deliver rolls of fabric and over 300 scrubs, but this was just a small contribution to the overwhelming effort behind the vital service this dedicated team provides to NHS staff.
Here at Fossfield Farm, we are implementing Government measures to ensure the safety of our staff. 50% of our staff are furloughed on a 3 week rotation, receiving 100% pay.
As we already comply with the Global Food Safety Standards
(BRCGS- AA Certified), we already have in place policies and procedures for excellent hygiene and food safety. On top on this, we have added measures for social distancing, added hand sanitiser in our offices, and conducted spefific risk assessments to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our staff.
During this lock down, we have done our best to provide excellent customer service, personally delivering stock to any
of our Scoopers if our distributors were unable to do so.
